Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Line-up Ambitious Swap Deal For £20m Hitman
It’s been reported that Arsene Wenger is lining up a surprise swap deal by offering out-of-favour striker Marouanne Chamakh for FC Cologne forward Lukas Podolski
With the January transfer window due to open within the next 24 hours it’s not a surprise to see several transfer rumours filling the gossip columns. Here we look at a piece of news concerning Arsenal and a potential swap deal involving Marouanne Chamakh and Lukas Podolski.
It’s been reported that Arsene Wenger is lining up a surprise swap deal by offering out-of-favour striker Marouanne Chamakh for FC Cologne forward Lukas Podolski.
Several clubs have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old German including Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. The Polish-born striker has been in impressive form this term netting 14 goals so far and is valued at around £20m.
Apparently Chamakh is “almost certain” to leave in January and Wenger would like to offload the Moroccan in a player plus cash deal for Podolski, although it’s thought that Cologne would be reluctant to get involved in such a deal.
I feel this piece of transfer news is highly unlikely to happen for several reasons, mainly because FC Cologne aren’t interested in Chamakh. Arsenal are close to signing Thierry Henry on loan to cover for the loss of Gervinho and Chamakh during the Africa Cup of Nations, so would Wenger shell out a record fee for another striker? I have my doubts, but the Frenchman has surprised us before!
