Arsenal Launch Record £40m Move For German Wonderkid
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made a late £40million move for Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler and still holds hope of landing some of Real Madrid’s cast offs.
As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal move for Draxler.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made a late £40million move for Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler and still holds hope of landing some of Real Madrid’s cast offs, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners are yet to make any significant signings this summer but it seems boss Wenger is determined to bring in some marquee names before the window closes on Monday night.
The Mirror suggest that Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis was working hard at the clubs training ground on Friday afternoon to try and tie up a deal for German sensation Draxler, with the north Londoner prepared to pay £40m for the hugely talented 19-year-old attacking midfielder.
It’s understood that Wenger has major reservations about paying such a price for a relatively unproven player, but with mounting pressure from the fans it seems the club are ready to make a last ditch attempt to make a statement in the transfer market and Draxler is firmly on the radar.
Rumours of a possible move increased on Friday when Schalke snapped up Kevin Prince-Boateng from AC Milan, but while Arsenal are pushing hard to get a deal done, the newspaper suggests that the Germans are holding out for a fee nearer £60m for the wonderkid.
The report also claims that Arsenal have ended their interest in Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye after refusing to go beyond £12m for the 27-year-old, but they are monitoring Kaka’s situation after the playmaker announced he wants to leave Real Madrid while Wenger has not given up hope of luring at least one of Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil or Angel Di Maria to the Emirates once the La Liga giants complete their move for Gareth Bale.
It’s all shaping up to be a frantic final few days in the transfer market for Arsenal with the club playing a dangerous game by waiting until the last minute to get their business done.
