Arsenal Pre-Spurs Team News: Wenger Offers Update On Ozil, Ramsey, Gibbs + More
Arsenal take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Here is the latest team news from Arsene Wenger on Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs, Nacho Monreal and more
Arsenal take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon and Gooner Mac brings us the official team news update from Arsene Wenger.
Following on from reports in the newspapers about a double injury blow for Arsenal, boss Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com an official team news and injury update with the latest ahead of the clubs trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the boss has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey won’t be available to face Spurs and it sounds like he may have suffered a minor set-back in his recovery from a thigh injury that’s already kept him on the sidelines for over 11 weeks. Arsene has revealed that the club have had difficulties in the final stages of Ramsey’s rehabilitation but it ‘looks to be short-term’.
There is some good news with Wenger hopeful Nacho Monreal will be passed fit after missing the last three weeks with a foot injury, while fellow left-back Kieran Gibbs also faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury that saw him miss the midweek draw with Bayern Munich.
We haven’t got the results of Mesut Ozil’s scan results yet so we’ll have to wait and see how long his hamstring injury is going to keep him out for, but Kim Kallstrom and Yaya Sanogo are both back in full training today so could be involved on Sunday.
Here’s what Arsene told the clubs official website:
on the left backs…
Kieran Gibbs has a test tomorrow but I am hopeful that Nacho Monreal will be fit. They both have a good chance.
on Mesut Ozil’s injury at Bayern…
He is out. I don’t know for how long but it is a hamstring injury. There are scans going on.
on Ramsey…
We have had to defer his comeback to full training a little so he is not available. He is having difficulties in the final stages of his rehab. It looks to be short-term.
on Kim Kallstrom and Yaya Sanogo…
Kallstrom joins the normal training group today and Sanogo too. I will have to decide if Kallstrom is OK to be in the squad on Sunday. I will see how he looks, it is not impossible.
Hopefully Ramsey’s ‘set-back’ doesn’t turn out to be anything serious as the last thing we need is another injury. With Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil joining the likes of Theo Walcott on the sidelines in recent weeks, we’re losing players fast and it’s vital we get Ramsey back for the run-in – particularly with so many big fixtures coming up.
