Arsenal In Talks Over Double Summer Swoop
Arsenal are in talks with Real Madrid over a potential double swoop for midfielder Casemiro and long-term target Alvaro Morata, according to the Mirror.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal eyeing a double swoop on Real Madrid.
Arsenal are in talks with Real Madrid over a potential double swoop for midfielder Casemiro and long-term target Alvaro Morata, according to the Mirror.
Casemiro joined his hometown club Sao Paulo as a child and came through their youth system before establishing himself as a first team regular between 2010-2013. His potential soon altered Real Madrid and he initially moved to the Bernabeu on a six-month loan in January 2013 before the move was made permanent in the summer with the Spanish giants paying around £5m for his services.
The 22-year-old has made 20 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side so far this season but the majority have come from the substitutes bench with the powerful midfielder making just 3 starts for the first team, and it seems Arsene Wenger is ready to offer him a more serious role at the Emirates.
The Mirror claim we’ve already been in touch with Madrid to discuss the possibility of signing Casemiro this summer after having him watched this season, but could face competition from Inter Milan with the Italians also understood to be interested.
I’ve been calling for Arsenal to sign an athletic midfielder for the past 12 months and hopefully this summer is when Arsene finally decides to bring one to the club, and it appears Casemiro is on his hit-list. He doesn’t have the experience we’d ideally look for but he certainly is an exciting prospect and has the potential to go far.
If we manage to agree a deal with Madrid it could be part of a double swoop as the Mirror also claim we’ve renewed our interest in striker Alvaro Morata. We were strongly linked with the 21-year-old last summer and in January but a move failed to materialise when Ancelotti refused to let him leave.
However, it seems Wenger hasn’t given up hope of signing the talented front-man and the newspaper report suggests the La Liga outfit might be prepared to do business for around £12m – which sounds like something of a bargain for a player of his quality and potential.
At least one striker is most definitely needed this summer but while Morata would be a useful addition, I hope we also go for a more established name such as Mario Mandzukic as well to really give us a wealth of options up front next season.
