By on March 13, 2016

Harry Kane hit a brace as Tottenham Hotspur closed the gap at the top to two points with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs dominated from the outset and hit the woodwork twice through Kane and Erik Lamela before the North Londoners eventually broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

Dele Alli sent Kane clear with a stunning long-range pass and the England international kept his cool to fire home a clinical left-footed shot for 0-1 in the 45th minute.

It didn’t take long for Tottenham to double their advantage after the break and Alli was once again the provider as the youngster found Kane with a precise cross and the strike made no mistake to make it 0-2 in the 47th minute.

Villa came close to halving the deficit late on as Jordan Ayew crashed his effort against the bar from close range in the 83rd minute but Spurs held out to secure a vital 2-0 win which sees them close the gap on leaders Leicester City to two points ahead of their clash with Newcastle on Monday night.
