Tottenham have stolen a march on Manchester United after opening talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a potential deal to sign Sere Aurier this summer, according to a report in the International Business Times.

Aurier was heralded as one of the most exciting young full-backs in Europe when he signed for PSG in 2015 but his time at the Parc des Princes hasn’t gone according to plan.

The 24-year-old’s career in France has been plagued by a number of controversies and his first team place is under serious threat following the arrival of Dani Alves on a free transfer from Juventus.

The Ivory Coast international has informed PSG that he wants to leave and opted out of their pre-season tour of the United States as he looks to secure a move away from the club.

PSG boss Unai Emery is quoted as saying by the IBT:

“I’ve spoken with Serge to tell him I wanted him to stay here and continue with us. He told me that he wanted to leave and that he wanted to stay in Paris to prepare for going. So, we signed Dani Alves, a very experienced player who has the spirit of a champion.”

Aurier’s situation has alerted Man Utd with the Independent reporting late last week that Jose Mourinho has identified the defender as a prime target after struggling to get a deal agreed for Fabinho.

Mourinho is looking to further strengthen his squad with a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia on the agenda and the newspaper suggested that United could snap-up Aurier for around £25m.

However, the Red Devils will now face some stiff competition as the IBT are citing a report from Telefoot that claims Tottenham have joined the chase to sign Aurier this summer.

The French publication suggests that Spurs have made contact with PSG to express their interest and the two clubs are now in negotiations over a potential deal.

Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for a new right-back to replace Kyle Walker following his move to Man City and Aurier would be an excellent signing if the north Londoners could pull it off.
