The 2010-2011 Premier League fixtures have just been announced. As usual, the opening day throws up some interested clashes but the tie of the day has to be Liverpool entertaining Arsenal at Anfield. The Merseysiders had a terrible season last year but following Rafa Benitez’s departure they will have a new man at the helm and he will start is Anfield tenure with a tricky tie against big-boys Arsenal. Hardly the dream start for any new manager and I’m sure Arsene Wenger would have hoped for a more favourable start as well.

Another high-profile clash is Tottenham hosting Manchester City at White Hart Lane. The two clubs battled it out last season for that all important fourth spot, with Tottenham securing the final Champions League place after beating City 0-1 at Eastland’s. Harry Redknapp may have hoped for a slightly easier start as his Spurs side would have played a Champions League qualifier just days before the opening day of the new Premier League season.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti will be far happier with their opening day fixtures, as  they both face newly promoted sides at home with Manchester United welcoming Newcastle to Old Trafford, while Chelsea take on West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

Games to be played on the weekend of August 14th.
