The reports claims that Nani fears he may be forced to quit United after talks over a new contract stalled, with Inter Milan said to be keeping tabs on the situation.
The winger still has two years left to run on his current contract but United are yet to make a formal offer to extend that deal. Talks between the players representatives and club officials have stalled, with Nani thought to want a deal that reflects the progress he’s made in recent seasons, and United’s reluctance to put forward an offer has left him fearing he may be sold this summer.
The 25-year-old is also said to be angry at the lack of contact from the club while he’s been away at Euro 2012 with the Portugal squad. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson usually keeps in contact with his players when they’re away at international tournaments, but the lack of contact combined with the frustrations over contract talks has left Nani feeling unsettled.
The uncertainty over the future of Nani has meant United have been looking for alternatives, and Porto’s James Rodriguez is seen as a top target.
The Mirror suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson has already had the £25m-rated Colombian scouted on several occasions, including trips to South America to watch him in action for the national team, while the 20-year-old has expressed his interest in making the move to Old Trafford.
Should Fergie decide to move for Rodriguez, he may face competition from Bayern Munich, with the German giants also thought to be keen.
