Tottenham Reject £38m Modric Bid As Real Threaten To End Talks

By on August 1, 2012

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Spurs turn down latest Madrid offer for Modric.

Luka Modric

Tottenham Hotspur have turned down a bid of £38m from Real Madrid for Luka Modric putting the proposed transfer in jeopardy, according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho has made the Croatian his number one summer transfer target but the Spaniards are becoming tired of Tottenham’s hardline approach after seeing three bids rejected by chairman Daniel Levy.

The Mail claim Madrid’s latest offer was £30m up front with a further £8m paid over the course of Modric’s contract, but Levy once again turned it down insisting he wont settle for anything less than the £40m asking price.

The La Liga champions are now believed to be growing frustrated at the lack of movement from Tottenham’s side and have told the Londoners they will now start to look at other targets.

Their threat to end talks could simply be a negotiating ploy but this transfer saga shows no signs of a conclusion any time soon, with Spurs adament the Croatian will remain in north London if their asking price isn’t met, despite the fact the 26-year-old is desperate for a move to Real.

Andre Villas-Boas and his squad fly back to London today after completing their pre-season tour of American with a 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls last night, and the Portuguese boss will be keen for a quick resolution to the Modric saga ahead of the new season, that’s just over 2 weeks away.

And the best pat for Ratboy is that PSG ARE willing to fork out the full 40Million; so if Madrid will not, problems for ratboy! I do trust Levy but it is about time he shows his strength in the transfer market and buys big, we need to show some intent up front!

The saga dragging on for so long cannot be any good for the team, so a compromise on the fee would seem to be sensible so that the team can be formed before the start of the season as we need to get off to a fast start

I cannot believe this to be true. If Spurs were offered this, I am sure the deal would have gone through!

In total agreement. More crap from the media, as per usual. Nothing else significant to write about.

I tend to agree. If 38 mill is on offer over the course of Modric’s new contract with Real then I reckon Mr. Levy would take it despite PSG’s alleged interest at 40mill.

We’ve been waiting for Berbatov’s replacement for 3 years now Mr. Levy -come on do the deal, show your intent, give more backing to AVB – lets see us add to Vertongen and Gyfil and challenge for titles and cups next season. My fear is we won’t get the business done have a poor showing next year and other stars will want out too (Bale, VDV, Lennon, etc) COYS!

dont be held to ransom levy. it’s quite simple, £40m or no deal, end of !! there should be a cut off date so if the asking price is’nt met the deal is off and we get on with it. no one forced modric to sign a long contract, so don’t go crying that you dont want to be here, you signed the contract. grow a pair luca, knuckle down, stop sulking and get us where we all want to be, challenging for the league and in the champion’s league !!!! ‘come on you spurs’.

So let me get this streight, madrid will pull out if we do not accept their 38m because we have said 40m or no deal? is that right…..so pay 40m or there is no deal its easy, surly. PSG WILL pay the 40m and the petulant child like player can go to PSG regardless of wether he likes it or not.

“…and the petulant child like player can go to PSG regardless of wether he likes it or not.” Well no because its up to Modric as much as the Spurs what club he joins isn’t it?
