Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is mulling over whether to stay with Lyon or join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to France manager Didier Deschamps.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed on Tuesday evening that they are close enough to agreeing a fee with Spurs, that Lloris has been given permission to speak with the Premier League side over a potential move to White Hart Lane.

The 25-year-old is now in advanced negotiation with the London club and while Aulas is confident a deal can be concluded before Friday’s deadline, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he stayed with Lyon.

“We were close to Tottenham and the decision is now up to Hugo, who must have had a number of contacts with the English club,”

“This transfer can be done at the end of the transfer window.”

“Would it be better for us to see him leaving? Since we have an objective to reduce the wage bill, this transfer enters in our programme,” Aulas continued.

“But if he stays here, we will be very happy.”

Former Juventus and Chelsea midfielder Deschamps, who is now in charge of Les Bleus after replacing Laurent Blanc earlier in the summer, has  now confirmed he has spoken directly with Lloris and says the stopper is still to decide whether to stay with Lyon or make the move to Tottenham.

“I talked with him by phone,”

“He has a choice to make between Lyon & Tottenham. I talked with him but what was said concerns just me and him. He has until Friday to decide, we will see.”

With the transfer window closing at 11pm on Friday, Lloris must make his decision soon or risk missing out on his big-money move to the Premier League.

C’mon Lloris just decide already. We Spurs fans cannot take another 24-hour silly season sky sports deadline day where Spurs take up half the coverage…!
