Former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has welcomed talk of Gareth Bale moving to Real Madrid and feels the Welshman would form a devastating partnership alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Mirror.

Spurs ace Bale has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu in recent years and former boss Harry Redknapp recently claimed the winger would walk into any team in the world, including the mighty Madrid.

Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has weighed-in and talked up the chances of being reunited with his former team-mate, claiming Bale has what it takes to succeed at the highest level and he would love the 23-year-old to join him in Spain.

Speaking after Croatia’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying  win over Wales on Tuesday, Modric is quoted as saying in the Mirror:

“Harry is right – it would be amazing for Gareth to come and play for Real Madrid.

“I think he can do it. He is certainly good enough to play at the highest level. I hope he will come to us.

“It was nice to see my old friend Gareth and play against him. He’s a top player. We had a good chat after the game.”

Modric, 27, made a £33m move to Madrid in the summer and feels Bale would form a devastating partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo, should he make the move to the Bernabeu. Modric continued:

“It would be even better to have Ronaldo and Bale on the wings for Madrid. And it could make Gareth an even better player. For me, they are the best two wingers in the world.”
