Liverpool In Talks To Sign £15m Attacking Midfielder

By on June 13, 2014

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool are in talks to sign £15m-rated Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri as Brendan Rodgers looks for possible alternatives to Adam Lallana, according to Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Shaqiri has been tipped to leave the Allianz Arena this summer just two years after making the move from FC Basel as the diminutive winger has struggled to hold down a first team place with the Bundesliga champions.

The 22-year-old made just 17 league appearances under Pep Guardiola last season with 7 of those coming on as a substitute, so he clearly doesn’t feature in the Spaniard’s plans and a move away this summer could be on the cards.

Despite his lack of playing time, Shaqiri still managed to chip in with six league goals and it appears he’s done enough to persuade Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers he could do a job at Anfield.

The Reds have been strongly linked with the attacker in recent months and reports last week claimed they may even have tabled a £15m offer to Bayern for his services, and now Sky Italia reporter Fabrizio Romano has suggested on Twitter that talks are continuing over a possible move.

Liverpool’s interest in Shaqiri comes after the club continue to struggle to agree a deal with Southampton for winger Adam Lallana, so it seems Rodgers has decided to identify other targets.

The Liverpool Echo reported last week that Liverpool may be forced to look elsewhere after the Saints had rejected the clubs final ‘take it or leave it’ £25m offer for Lallana, with the South Coast club understood to be holding out for nearer £30m.

That kind of money seems excessive for a player who’s only really had one good season of top flight football, so it’s no wonder if Rodgers is looking at alternatives and Shaqiri would be an excellent addition.

The Swiss international is not only younger than Lallana but he’ll also cost almost half the price which would allow Rodgers to use the extra funds to strengthen other areas of his squad, with a left-back also likely to be a priority this summer.

The only draw-back is that Shaqiri doesn’t have any experience in the Premier League and at just 6ft 2 inches, understandably some have voiced concerns over his ability to cope with the physical demands of English football.

What do Liverpool fans think? Would you take Shaqiri at £15m, or would you prefer Lallana at £30m?

Although he is only five foot six and a half inches tall, he is built like a bull. Nobody could question his ability to deal with the physical side of the P.L. Do you just make this stuff up as you go along?

    Only 6ft 2 ? Isn’t that pretty tall for a winger?

This is good news . Even £25 million for Lallana is too much . Shaqiri represents is class and he has Champions league experience too apart from being younger . What about Lovren , Shaqiri and Baines (not Moreno whose stats are not that good )

We don’t have to deceive our self instead we should have asked our self why we lost barclay premiership to our river.it is high time we stopped buying cheap players just because the club doesn’t want to pay over the odds.LFC bought more than six players last session non of these players is quality enough to break through into the first team.Funning enough the manager has started again this session by acquiring lambert for just 4m and Emir Can for 10m.this is a club that will be competing in the CL and also competing for league without a single quality singing.Although,Breden Rodgers has done a great work in the club but he is not really good in the market.Out of many many transfer dealings he has made so far,we can only talk of two deals Daniel sturridge and Philip contioh .the rest are flop. Finally we fans should endeavor and make our opinion in accord regarding the singing of quality players not quantity .I don’t know when a player who has almost gone out of strength and value becomes a quality player he promised the fans when he said that he would rather sign one or two quality players that would be useful than many valueless players. Now,two are already in with many prospects in the market that will likely become deal soon . All what am saying is this,Adam Lallana is a quality player better by far than Shaqiri who may not cope with the pressure of EPL . I for once as a long fan and admirer of the club can not bear it again to watch our rival wining the trophy that we are supposed to win due to the lack of good judgment of real quality player of our manager and the board

worst comment ever Kayode. Just because a plyers costs $30,00000 does not mean he will be good. Can and Lambert in my opinion are great signings and will feature well next season. You need to top playing championship Manager and wake up. LFC have scouts for a rason, they scout GOOD players and advise if they will be good for LFC. LFC DONT just get a list of prices and go ohh ok this guy is worth 30,000000 lets buy him he must be good. I am so sick of these plastic fans who have no idea what they are talking about. I am sure Rodgers (Who has earned a little respect now) knows who he wants and who can make a difference next season OK?
