Arsenal In ‘Advanced Talks’ With Chelsea Target After Making €30m Bid

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are in for Sami Khedira.

Arsenal are believed to be in advanced talks to sign Chelsea target Sami Khedira after tabling a €30m bid for the Real Madrid midfielder, according to reports.

The German international is widely expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer after turning down a contract extension and with just one year remaining on his current deal and Toni Kroos on his way to Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has made the 27-year-old available for transfer.

The midfield powerhouse has emerged as a top target for Arsenal and the Metro claim that Arsene Wenger has tabled a €30m (£24m) bid as he looks to bring in a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta this summer.

Reports have also linked Chelsea with a move for Khedira in recent days with Jose Mourinho understood to be keen on being reunited with the midfielder having been the coach to take him to Madrid back in 2010.

However, it appears that Arsenal are now leading the chase with talkSPORT broadcaster Stan Collymore saying that he’s spoken to Khedira’s agent who confirmed the Gunners are now in advanced talks to sign the player.

The Metro claim that Khedira is interested in a move to the Emirates to link-up with close friends Mesut Ozil, Lukasz Podolski and Per Mertersacke, but any potential deal is likely to be complicated by the midfielders supposed £150,000-a-week wage demands.

It remains to be seen how Chelsea will respond to news that Arsenal are closing in on Khedira but there has been reports suggesting the west Londoners could be ready to make a late bid to hijack the Gunners move.

If either of Arsenal or Chelsea end up bagging Khedira, it would be a major coup as the German is an excellent player and would be an excellent addition to any squad, so hopefully we’ll see him plying his trade in the Premier League next season.
