Man Utd Target Refuses To Rule Out £40m Arsenal Move Following Talks With Wenger
Manchester United target Karim Benzema has refused to rule out the possibility of making a £40m move to Arsenal after speaking with Arsene Wenger
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, more on the future of Karim Benzema…
Real Madrid striker and reported Manchester United target Karim Benzema has refused to rule out the possibility of making a £40m move to Arsenal after speaking with Arsene Wenger about a potential switch to North London, according to the Express.
Benzema has been at Madrid since joining the club from Lyon in 2009 but his future at the Bernabeu has been called into question this summer following the arrival of Rafa Benitez as manager.
The Spanish boss has been experimenting with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the central striking position during pre-season and Benzema started from the bench during last weeks 0-0 draw with Roma.
The Express cite reports coming from Spanish outlet El Confidential who claim that the French international isn’t the sort of striker Benitez wants to lead his attack with the new Madrid coach understood to be lining-up moves for Sergio Aguero and Fernando Llorente.
This has led to intense speculation over a possible move for Benzema this summer and El Confidential claim that the striker refused to rule out joining Arsenal after holding talks with Arsene Wenger about a potential move to the Emirates.
The Gunners aren’t the only club showing a keen interest as the Express suggest that Manchester United are also keeping a close eye on his situation, but for now it appears Arsenal are in pole position to secure a £40m deal if the 27-year-old looks for a new challenge in England.
It appears Benzema will now bide his time to assess where he fits into Benitez’s plans before making any decision over his future but El Confidential claim that it wouldn’t be a surprise if the player was to follow Mesut Ozil to Arsenal by making a big-money move during the closing stages of the transfer window.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but obviously Benzema would be a major coup if Arsenal could pull it off and I think with him leading the line up front, the North Londoners would have a squad capable of mounting a serious title challenge next season.

However, I still wouldn’t rule out Man Utd as they have the financial muscle to compete with Arsenal and Louis van Gaal certainly needs to bring in another front-man after letting Robin van Persie join Fenerbache.
It’s going to be fascinating to see how it all plays out but I’d love to see Benzema come to the Premier League and he’d be a sensational signing for either Arsenal or United if one of the clubs were able to lure him away from Madrid this summer.
