Chelsea Agree Personal Terms With Bundesliga Star, Fee Now Being Negotiated
Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Baba Rahman after the players agent confirmed personal terms have been agreed over his switch from Augsburg
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea close in on Baba Rahman…..
Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Baba Rahman after the player’s agent confirmed personal terms have been agreed over his switch from Augsburg, according to Sky Sports News.
The Blues have been on the look-out for another left-back after Filipe Luis completed a move back to Atletico Madrid last month and Jose Mourinho confirmed on Sunday that he was working hard trying to strengthen his options at the back.
The Portuguese coach told the press:
“We are trying to sign a left-back. We have only one [César Azpilicueta]. We are trying.” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Several names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but Rahman has emerged as a prime target and the Daily Star reported earlier this week that Chelsea were clear to sign the Ghanaian international after Augsburg completed the signing of Philipp Max as his replacement.
It appears the transfer has now taken a huge step closer to completion as Rahman’s agent, Sascha Empacher, has been quoted by Sky Sports News as saying that they’ve already agreed terms to join Chelsea and all that remains is for the two clubs to settle on a fee.
“It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed.”
We’ll now have to hold tight and see if Chelsea can agree a fee but the Daily Mail claim that the Premier League champions are on the verge of securing a £17.5m deal and are simply going over the finer details with Augsburg.
So it looks like Mourinho is close to replacing Luis and when Rahman does wrap-up his move to West London, he’ll become Chelsea’s fourth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Nathan, Radamel Falcao and Asmir Begovic.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a superb debut season at Augsburg last year with his excellent displays down the left flank helping the club to a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga table, earning him a reputation as one of the best full-backs in German football.

Despite his obvious potential, I think it’s fair to say Rahman will still play limited first team football next season as Cesar Azpilicueta has established himself as Mourinho’s No.1 left-back.
However, the youngster has plenty of time to learn the ropes from his more experienced colleagues before making any real push for the first team, and I think he’s going to prove to be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad – if he completes his move, of course.
