Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Injury Boost Ahead Of Man Utd + Wilshere Update
Arsene Wenger has confirmed an injury boost ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Man Utd while he’s also given an update on Jack Wilshere & Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has provided mixed team and injury news ahead of the clubs trip to Manchester United this weekend.
The Gunners head to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and they’ve been boosted by the news that Gabriel is expected to be passed fit after recovering from a hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old has missed the North Londoners last two matches after picking up a hamstring problem earlier this month but Wenger says the defender will resume full training on Friday and should be back in the squad this weekend.
However, there isn’t such positive news on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the midfielder has been ruled out with a knee injury that he suffered during Arsenal 2-0 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night.
Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered the injury during a collision with Javier Mascherano just before half-time and was due to have a scan on Thursday amid reports the 22-year-old could be facing several weeks on the sidelines.
Wenger also gave an update on Jack Wilshere and confirmed that the midfielder is still not back in full training having missed the entire season so far with a fractured fibula.
The Arsenal boss didn’t give any indication as to how long it will be until Wilshere does resume full training so for now he remains unavailable along with Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Gabriel…
He is coming back into the squad tomorrow, so we will see how he responds to that, but the signs are positive. He might be available for Sunday.
on Oxlade-Chamberlain…
He has a scan today, he will not be available for Sunday.
on Wilshere…
He is not back in full training yet.
on other team news…
Everyone else is the same as before, so there’s no Rosicky, Cazorla, Wilshere.
Arsenal head to Old Trafford this weekend sitting third in the Premier League and two points adrift of leaders Leicester City so Wenger will be desperate to pick up a positive result to give their title challenge a major boost.
