Wenger: Star To Miss Man Utd Game With ‘Serious’ Injury + Gabriel & Welbeck Update
Arsene Wenger has confirmed one of his players will miss the Man Utd game with a serious injury while he also gave an update on Gabriel and Danny Welbeck
Arsenal will look to give their Premier League title challenge a major boost when they head to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, boss Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and has given reporters a team news and injury update.
The Frenchman confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the trip to Old Trafford and is facing several weeks on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury during Arsenal’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained the problem after colliding with Barca defender Javier Mascherano just before half-time and Wenger has described the injury as ‘quite serious’.
The Gunners boss revealed that the midfielder is due to see a specialist today and could be out for 2-3 weeks or 6-7 weeks depending on the verdict from the doctor.
Wenger also told reporters that Gabriel is due to have a late fitness test to determine whether he’ll be available for selection this weekend after being on the sidelines in recent weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Brazilian international has missed games with Leicester City, Hull City and Barcelona but is now back in full training and could return to the squad against United this weekend.
Danny Welbeck has made a successful return from a long-term knee injury recently and many feel he should start up front against his former side on Sunday. However, Wenger has said the club will continue to be cautious with the striker after such a long period on the sidelines.
Here is what the Arsenal boss has been saying this morning;
