Chelsea are determined to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer and are set to offer him a lucrative contract to try and tempt him away from Atletico Madrid, according to the Mirror.
A nightmare start to Chelsea’s title defence under Jose Mourinho left Guus Hiddink with too much to do when he replaced the Portuguese coach in December with the club on course to finishing well outside the top four.
New boss Antonio Conte will take over from interim manager Hiddink once he fulfills his duties with Italy at the European Championships but it looks like he’s already working on potential transfer targets.
Despite the lack of Champions League football on offer next season, the Mirror claim that Chelsea have identified Griezmann as a key signing this summer as Conte looks to rebuild the squad after a disastrous campaign for the deposed Premier League champions.
Chelsea have long been linked with Griezmann but after watching the French international score 29 goals in all competitions for Atletico this season, the newspaper suggests the Blues are set to tempt the 25-year-old to West London with a lucrative contract.
I’m sure Atletico will do all they can to keep hold of Griezmann as he’s played a key role in Diego Simeone’s side maintaining their La Liga title push and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League this year.
However, despite their success on the pitch, the Spanish outfit won’t be able to compete with Chelsea on a financial level so they may be forced to cash-in if a tempting offer is put on the table and Griezmann makes it clear he wants out.
With the futures of Radamel Falcao, Loic Remy, Alexandre Pato and Diego Costa unclear, it looks like Chelsea are going to need to bring in at least one new forward this summer and Griezmann would be a sensational signing if they could pull it off.

He’s capable of playing anywhere across the front three so he’d give Conte plenty of options and his goal ratio at Atletico has been improving every season, and Chelsea could certainly do with another threat in front of goal.
