Man Utd Fitness Blow As Duo Emerge As Doubts For FA Cup Final
Manchester United have been hit by a fresh double blow with Morgan Schneiderlin and Marcos Rojo emerging as fitness doubts for Saturday’s FA Cup final
Manchester United have been hit by a fresh double blow with Morgan Schneiderlin and Marcos Rojo emerging as fitness doubts for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, according to the Express.
Both Rojo and Schneiderlin were surprisingly not included in United’s matchday squad for Sunday’s abandoned Premier League clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Many assumed that Louis van Gaal has decided to rest them ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup final, however, the Express claim that the duo were in fact forced to miss the game due to fitness issues.
The newspaper says that defender Rojo picked up an injury in training last week while midfielder Schneiderlin is understood to have been suffering from a bout of illness.
The pair are now unlikely to feature in the rescheduled league game with Bournemouth on Tuesday night and face a race against time to face Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday evening.
It would come as a huge blow to van Gaal if he was to lose Rojo as he’s been the Dutchman’s first choice left-back since returning from a serious shoulder problem earlier this year. Youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is on stand-by to deputise should the Argentinean international fail to make it.
Schneiderlin would also be a big miss as the French international would have been hoping to line-up in the middle of the park against Palace but we’ll have to wait and see whether he’s able to recover from his illness in time to put himself in contention.
United will finally finish off their league campaign tomorrow night needing a win over the Cherries to climb above Southampton in to fifth position. Unfortunately a top four finish is now beyond them unless United can mange to beat Bournemouth by 18 goals.
Once the league season is over, United will then turn their attention to Saturday’s huge final as they look to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2004.
