Arsenal Hope To Announce New Signing This Week After Agreeing £33.8m Deal
Arsenal are hoping to unveil Granit Xhaka as their first signing of the summer this week after agreeing a £33.8m deal in principal with Borussia Monchengladbach
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal close in on the signing of Granit Xhaka…..
Arsenal are hoping to unveil Granit Xhaka as their first signing of the summer this week after agreeing a £33.8m deal in principal with Borussia Monchengladbach, according to the Mirror.
Arsene Wenger has suggested he’s looking to bring in three new faces to the Emirates this summer and Xhaka has been strongly linked with a move to North London in recent weeks.
We’re understood to have extensively scouted the midfielder throughout the season and the Evening Standard reported last week that we’d formalised our interest after testing Gladbach’s resolve with a £33.8m bid.
That offer fell just short of their valuation but it appears the Bundesliga club have decided it’s sufficient to persuade them to cash-in on the player as the Mirror claim today that we’ve now reached an agreement in principal with Gladbach to sign Xhaka.
The newspaper says Wenger is hopeful of wrapping-up the deal over the coming days and the midfielder has also confirmed he wants his future resolved well ahead of the start of the European Championships.
Xhaka is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“The season’s over now and there might be discussions tomorrow regarding the matter, we will make it together. The decision will definitely be before the European Championship.
“I’m the wrong person to be asked [about a possible move], you might need to check that with [sporting director] Max Eberl.”
Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are both set to leave when their contracts expire next month so we need to bring in another central midfielder and Xhaka would be an excellent addition to the squad if we can get this deal over the line.

The 23-year-old is a deep-lying left-footed midfielder who’s known for his superb passing range as well as his leadership skills so he should bring a lot of qualities to the Arsenal team next season.
Let’s hope we can wrap-up his signing this week and then Wenger can turn his attention to signing a new striker and a top class centre-back. With those three additions, we’ll finally have a squad capable of challenging for top honours next year.
