The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea make their move for Leonardo Bonucci…
Antonio Conte is looking to raid his former club after Chelsea launched a £39.8m bid for Leonardo Bonucci but Juventus aren’t going to let the defender go easily, according to the Daily Star.
Conte isn’t due to officially take over the reigns at Stamford Bridge until he’s fulfilled his duties with the Italian national team at Euro 2016 but it looks as though the 46-year-old has already got his new employers working on potential signings.
The Azzurri boss is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer revamping a Chelsea squad that slumped to a disappointing 10th placed finish in the Premier League table last season and a long-term replacement for John Terry is likely to be on the agenda.
It appears Conte is hoping to pull off a raid on his former club as the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Italy that claim Chelsea have submitted an opening £39.8m bid for Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci.
The 29-year-old joined the Old Lady from Bari in 2010 and has developed in to one of the best central defenders in world football during his time in Turin with his rock solid displays at the back helping Juve land five consecutive Serie A titles.
Bonucci has also impressed on the international stage and he was widely praised for his performance during Italy’s opening 2-0 win over Belgian at the European Championships earlier this week.
Conte obviously knows the player well from his time with both Juventus and the Italian national team and he’d be a sensational signing if Chelsea were able to pull it off this summer.
However, understandably, Juve are desperate to keep hold of Bonucci and the Daily Star claim the Serie A giants have informed Chelsea it will take £47.5m to persuade them to cash-in on the defender.

Only time will tell if the Blues will be prepared to increase their offer and if they did agree to pay close to £50m it would be a huge investment for a player who’s approaching his 30th birthday, but Bonucci would be an excellent addition to the squad so I wouldn’t be surprised if Conte encourages the board to do all they can to lure him to West London.
