Chelsea Launch £40m Midfielder Bid But Spaniards Hold Out For More
Chelsea have launched a £40m bid for Man Utd target Andre Gomes but Valencia are holding out for even more for the Portuguese midfielder.
The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea have failed with a £40m move for Andre Gomes….
Chelsea have launched a £40m bid for Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes but Valencia are holding out for even more as they play hardball over their star man, according to the Mirror.
Gomes joined Valencia on a permanent deal last summer following a successful loan spell from Benfica and has excelled in a struggling side that finished 12th in the La Liga table last season.
The 22-year-old is now being tipped to leave the Mestalla after Valencia failed to qualify for any form of European football next season and it looks as though he could be heading to the Premier League.
Sky Sports News reported last month that Chelsea had seen an opening £32m bid rejected for Gomes while the Mirror are now claiming that they west Londoners have returned with an improved second offer worth £40m.
The newspaper suggests that new boss Antonio Conte is keen to bring in an energetic box-to-box midfielder to suit his new 3-5-2 formation next season and has identified Gomes as a key target this summer.
However, it appears Chelsea will have to dig a little deeper if they want to land the talented Portuguese international as the Express claim that Valencia have rejected their latest bid as the Spaniards are holding out for an even larger offer from Juventus.
The Serie A champions have also been strongly linked with Gomes this summer and it’s thought that Valencia hope the Italian giants will pay big money to sign the midfielder if and when they cash-in on Paul Pogba.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea are prepared to go beyond £40m but it could be a solid investment if they do as Gomes is expected to develop in to one of the best midfielders in European football over the coming years.

Chelsea may want to act fast though as the youngster has been impressing for Portugal at Euro 2016 and interest in his signature could increase even further if he helps his country reach the final with a win over Wales this evening.
