Arsenal Open Talks Over Potential Deal For £13m International
Arsenal have opened talks over a potential deal to sign a £13m-rated international as Arsene Wenger continues his search for a new centre-back.
The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have made an approach for Simon Kjaer…
Arsenal have made contact with Fenerbache to discuss a potential move for £13m-rated defender Simon Kjaer as Arsene Wenger continues his search for a centre-back, according to ESPN.
The boss is desperately trying to bring in another central defender before the transfer window closes after Gabriel joined Per Mertesacker on the sidelines with the Brazilian international ruled out for eight weeks with an ankle injury.
Shkodran Mustafi has been widely reported as our prime target but we’re struggling to agree a deal with Valencia as the La Liga outfit are demanding upward of £25m meaning Wenger has been looking in to cheaper alternatives.
BBC journalist David Ornstein reported earlier this week that Arsene had identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Omer Toprak and Fenerbache’s Simon Kjaer as potential targets while it’s also been claimed that we’re showing an interest in Southampton’s Jose Fonte.
However, it looks as though Wenger has now stepped-up his interest in Kjaer as ESPN are reporting that we’ve opened talks with Fenerbache over a potential deal to sign the Danish international.
The report indicates that the Turkish giants have yet to receive any formal offer from Arsenal and are keen to keep hold of Kjaer so will demand upward of £13m (€15m) to sell the 27-year-old this summer.
Kjaer still has three years left to run on his contract so Fener are under no pressure to cash-in and it’s understood that they’ve already turned down offers for the defender with the likes of Chelsea and Napoli linked in recent months, so we could yet face stiff competition for his signature.
The Dane only moved to Turkey from Lille last summer but has settled in to life well and was hugely impressive during his 45 appearances in all competitions last season while he also has plenty of experience at international level.
