Transfer deadline day is finally here so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Here, Marcos Alonso is on the verge of joining Chelsea…
Spanish full-back Marcos Alonso is currently undergoing a medical with Chelsea ahead of his proposed £23m move from Fiorentina, according to the Evening Standard.
Antonio Conte is desperately trying to strengthen his defensive options before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight as the Italian tactician currently has just four senior defenders to choose from.
With Baba Rahman joining Schalke last month, the Blues are short of options at left-back so it came as no surprise when reports emerged last last week that Chelsea had stepped-up their interest in Alonso.
Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that after seeing their opening £20m offer rejected, Chelsea had agreed terms with Fiorentina and the 25-year-old was flying-in to London to finalise his move to Stamford Bridge.
The Evening Standard are now claiming that Alonso at currently undergoing his medical at Chelsea’s Cobham training base this morning after agreeing personal terms with the west Londoners.
Alonso dropped a clear sign that he is set to join the Blues after following them on Twitter late last night and the newspaper says that a £23m deal is now expected to go through over the coming hours.
The Spaniard came through the Real Madrid youth system prior to joining Bolton in 2010 where he spent three years before heading for Italy in 2013 having been snapped up by Fiorentina.
The left-back enjoyed a six-month loan at Sunderland in 2014 where he helped the Black Cats avoid relegation from the Premier League before returning to Florence where he’s become a first team regular.

Alonso’s arrival will provide real competition at left-back but he’ll also give Conte the option to move Cesar Azpilicueta to right-back and free Branislav Ivanovic up to play in a central defensive role if needed.
