[Video Goals] Tottenham 2-1 Southampton: Alli On Target As Spurs Close Gap

Tottenham Hotspur cemented their position in the top four with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Southampton at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

Spurs started well and broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Christian Eriksen found the bottom corner from 20 yards with a well-placed finish.

The north Londoners doubled their advantage when Dele Alli converted from the penalty spot after Steven Davis had brought the England midfielder down in the area in the 33rd minute.

Southampton pulled one back shortly after half-time when James Ward-Prowse tucked the ball away at the far post after a deep cross from Ryan Bertrand.

However, Spurs held on to secure a vital 2-1 win which sees them move three points clear of Manchester City and to within ten points of leaders Chelsea.
