Tottenham Team News: Poch Offers Update On Kane, Rose, Wanyama, Winks + More
Mauricio Pochettino has offered an update on Kane, Rose, Wanyama, Winks and Lamela ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Swansea.
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to keep the pressure on Chelsea when they take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The Spurs boss confirmed a huge injury blow with the news that Harry Winks is unlikely to play again this season after suffering an ankle injury during Saturday’s win at Burnley.
Winks sustained the injury after falling in to the home dugout following a challenge from Stephen Ward just before half-time and while Tottenham await the results of a scan, Pochettino has admitted it’s unlikely the midfielder will play again this season.
Victor Wanyama was also forced off against Burnley after suffering a back injury and although the midfielder will be assessed at training tomorrow, Pochettino says the Kenyan international could be back in the squad on Wednesday.
The Spurs boss also provided a positive update on Danny Rose after revealing the the full-back is progressing well in his recovery from a knee ligament injury but there is still no timeframe for his return to action.
Pochettino is quoted as saying by Football London:
“He [Winks] is doing now in half an hour another scan and in that moment we will see what is his real problem. We hope there is no big issue but it’s true that it will be difficult to play again this season – it’s sure it will be difficult.
“He twisted his ankle but now we need to see what happened in his ankle. We need to see the scan and then start his recovery.”
“We need to assess him [Wanyama] tomorrow. Today he wasn’t on the [training] pitch. We’ll see. He will have a chance maybe to be in the squad but we need to assess him tomorrow.”
“It’s very positive [on Rose], he’s continuing his recovery. He’s in a good way.”
Pochettino also gave reporters the latest on Harry Kane with the striker continuing to do light individual training as he looks to recover from an ankle injury, with a possible return date later this month.
The final update regarded Erik Lamela and Pochettino confirmed that the attacker underwent surgery in Barcelona over the weekend after being ruled out for the season with an on-going hip injury.
Pochettino told TottenhamHotspur.com:
Harry Kane
Harry is continuing with individual work outdoors.
Erik Lamela
Erik’s surgery took place on Saturday in Barcelona, where he is now recuperating before commencing rehabilitation under the supervision of a member of our medical team.
Tottenham head in to the midweek games sitting second in the table and closed the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points after the Blues slumped to a shock home loss to Crystal Palace.
With the Blues facing a tough game against Manchester City, Spurs have a great chance to close the gap even further if they could take three points back to north London from Wales on Wednesday.
