Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to undergo a medical this evening after Liverpool agreed a £40m deal with Arsenal to sign the midfielder
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set for Liverpool…
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to undergo a medical this evening after Liverpool agreed a £40m deal with Arsenal to sign the midfielder, according to the Mirror.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is in the final year of his contract at Arsenal and has been strongly linked with a move away from the Emirates after failing to agree terms over an extension.
Arsene Wenger was initially adamant the midfielder wouldn’t be sold this summer but that stance changed after Oxlade-Chamberlain made it clear he wouldn’t sign a new deal as he wanted a fresh start.
Chelsea looked to have won the race for the 24-year-old’s signature after agreeing a deal with Arsenal yesterday but Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected the move to Stamford Bridge in favour of joining Liverpool.
The Reds saw their opening £30m offered knocked back but the Mirror claim they have now agreed a deal after agreeing to match the £40m offer Chelsea put on the table.
The newspaper suggests Oxlade-Chamberlain will undergo his medical at St Georges Park tonight and is expected to complete his move to Anfield on Thursday – although he faces a race against time to get it wrapped-up in time to make England’s flight to Malta ahead of their World Cup qualifier.
The deal is a major coup for Liverpool as they’ve been able to beat the defending Premier League champions to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s signature so I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will be delighted.

It’s understood that the player opted for Anfield after Klopp promised to play Oxlade-Chamberlain in his preferred central midfield role whereas Chelsea wanted him as competition for Victor Moses in the right wing-back position.
