Manchester United are plotting moves for Arsenal and Tottenham players as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in up to four new signings ahead of next summer, according to a report in the Express.
Mourinho’s long-term future at Old Trafford has been the subject of much debate in recent days with widespread reports linking him with a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Express cite a report from Don Balon that claims Mourinho’s representatives have already held preliminary talks with the Ligue 1 giants and the ‘Special One’ has made it clear he’ll make the move if United don’t back him in the transfer market.
The Spanish publication says Mourinho has identified four areas of his squad that need strengthening if they are to compete with Manchester City for the title and Mesut Ozil is a prime target for the attacking midfield position.
Ozil’s current contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the season and he looks increasingly likely to leave the Emirates after failing to agree terms over an extension.
The German playmaker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months and the report claims Mourinho has threatened to quit United if they don’t secure his signature next summer.
Another area the Portuguese coach is keen to strengthen is left-back as Mourinho has used a number of players in the position since he took over 18 months ago but none have managed to make the role their own.
A long-term solution is needed and the Express claim United are lining-up a move for Tottenham’s Danny Rose after he admitted in the summer he was considering his future in north London.
Rose has just returned from a long-term knee injury but he is one of the best left-backs in Europe when fully-fit so he’d be a superb signing if United were able to pull it off.
With Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford in serious doubt, it would make sense for United to try and use the former Southampton man as bait to land Rose as he would provide Mauricio Pochettino with a ready-made replacement.

The Express says Mourinho also wants another centre-back as Victor Lindelof has struggled to make an impression since joining the club from Benfica in a £30m deal last summer while another top class striker will be needed to compete with Romelu Lukaku as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to leave at the end of the season.
It sounds like it’s going to be a busy few months for United as Mourinho tries to build a squad capable of competing with City having fallen 8 points adrift of their rivals after just 11 games of the season.
