Man Utd Suffer Fresh Injury Concern After Star Limps Off On International Duty

Manchester United will be sweating over the fitness of Phil Jones after the defender limped off during England’s 0-0 draw with Germany at Wembley last night.
Jones started at the back alongside John Stones and Harry Maguire against the World Champions but appeared to aggravate a thigh injury after just 10 minutes.
The United centre-back was able to continue and did his bit to ensure the score stayed level after clearing Manchester City attacker Leroy Sane’s effort off the line.
However, Jones eventually hobbled off in the 24th minute with a heavily strapped left thigh and was replaced by Liverpool defender Joe Gomez – who came on to make his senior debut.
Jones was forced off during United’s 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town last month with a similar injury so Jose Mourinho will be praying the problem isn’t serious this time around.
The early signs look positive as Gareth Southgate offered an update on Jones’s fitness after the game and while he confirmed the defender has aggravated his thigh problem, the England boss suggests the injury isn’t serious.
Soutgate is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:
“I thought there were a few shaky moments in the first half. Mainly due to Phil carrying something.
“He seems fine, we’ve checked him out. It’s something he’s been carrying but he doesn’t seem to be any worse so that’s fine. We’ll see whether Phil stays with us.”
Mourinho will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how Jones recovers over the coming days but the United boss would ideally like to see his player return to Carrington to avoid aggravating the injury further.
Jones has been a key player for United this season having made 13 appearances so far and it would be a big blow for Mourinho if the 25-year-old was ruled out for any significant period of time.
