Arsenal are plotting a shock swoop for Marouane Fellaini as Manchester United get ready to cash-in on the midfielder for £8m this winter, according to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.
Fellaini was linked with a move to the Emirates before former United manager David Moyes splashed out £27m to sign the midfielder from Everton on deadline day back in 2013.
The Belgian international has never really won over the Old Trafford faithful due to his uncompromising style of play but Fellaini has still racked up over 142 appearances for the first team over the past four years.
Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the 29-year-old’s but Fellaini has still struggled to hold down a regular first team place having started just 3 Premier League games and none in the Champions League this season.
The midfielder is in the final year of his contract and has so far refused to sign an extension so there is an increasing possibility that Fellaini could walk away from the club on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
It seems United aren’t prepared to let that happen as TeamTalk are citing a report coming from Calciomercato that claims the Red Devils are prepared to cash-in at around £8m during the January window.
There has been plenty of interest shown in his signature but the report says Arsenal have emerged as surprise suitors with the north Londoners hoping to lure Fellaini to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have often been criticised for having a soft centre and the publication says Arsene Wenger feels Fellaini is the man who can add a bit of ‘bite’ to their midfield.
Understandably, United would prefer not to lose the Belgian ace to a Premier League rival so they’ll do all they can to sell Fellaini to a club abroad this winter.
However, there is not much United can do to prevent the player seeing out the rest of his contract and joining Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of the season if he decides to link-up with the Gunners.

We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out over the coming months but I must admit I’d be surprised if Fellaini does end up at Arsenal, and I’m not sure his signing would go down too well among the disgruntled Emirates faithful if Wenger did get a deal agreed.
