Mesut Ozil’s Move To Man Utd Looks Off After Arsenal Star Receives Huge Offer
Mesut Ozil’s proposed move to Man Utd could be off as the Mirror are reporting that the Arsenal playmaker has been offered a huge contract by Barcelona.
The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Mesut Ozil is linked with Barcelona…
Mesut Ozil’s proposed move to Manchester United could be off as the Mirror are reporting that the Arsenal playmaker has been offered a huge contract by Barcelona.
Ozil current contract expires at the end of the season and his future at Arsenal has been cast in serious doubt in recent months after failing to agree terms over an extension at the Emirates.
There have been growing reports suggesting that Arsene Wenger will cash-in on either Ozil or Alexis Sanchez in January rather than risk losing both his key men for nothing in the summer.
Ozil has been strongly linked with a move to Man Utd in recent weeks and the Mirror carried a report on Friday that claimed the attacker was set for a move to Old Trafford.
The newspaper cited reports coming out of Turkey that claimed Ozil had been approached by Fenerbache but he told the Turkish giants that he was set to join United after receiving a ‘serious’ offer from Jose Mourinho.
The pair enjoyed a close relationship during their time together at Real Madrid and it seems the Portuguese coach is keen to be reunited at Old Trafford as he looks to build a squad capable of competing with Man City.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan appears to have fallen out-of-favour under Mourinho so Ozil could be viewed as the man to play in the No.10 role ahead of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic next season.
However, the proposed move is now in serious doubt as the Mirror are carrying a fresh report today that claims Ozil could be heading back to Spain after being offered a huge £350,000-a-week contract by Barcelona.
The Catalans are desperate to add to their attacking options after losing Neymar in the summer and Ozil could be seen as a cheaper alternative to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
It remains to be seen whether Barca will look to negotiate a cut-price deal this winter or wait to secure a free transfer in the summer but Ozil will be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Spaniards in January.
That will put United at a big disadvantage as the 29-year-old isn’t allowed to officially a contract with any English club until his Arsenal contract expires in June 2018.
