Arsenal take on Man Utd at the Emirates this evening. Here is a preview with the latest team news, line-ups and prediction
Arsenal and Manchester United will face-off at the Emirates this evening with both sides desperately needing a win to boost their hopes at the top end of the table.
The Gunners head in to the game having recently broken in to the top four thanks to three consecutive league victories since the international break last month.
Wednesday night’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield cemented Arsenal’s position in fourth place but they can move to within just one point of second-placed United with victory tonight.
Jose Mourinho takes his side to north London off the back of a 4-2 victory at Watford which also made it three wins on the bounce for the Red Devils.
However, with Manchester City securing a last gasp win over Southampton in midweek United remain eight points adrift of the leaders so Mourinho’s knows they need a positive result this evening.
Team news
Arsenal will be without top scorer Alexandre Lacazette after he picked up a groin injury against Huddersfield so Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud are pushing for a recall up front.
Alexis Sanchez also sustained a hamstring injury shortly after scoring Arsenal’s third goal in midweek but he trained yesterday so should be available for selection today.
Otherwise, Wenger has no other injury worries to contend with with the exception of Santi Cazorla as the midfielder continues the long road to recovery from his Achilles injury.
United have limited options at the back as Phil Jones is still out with a thigh injury while Eric Bailly is also still nursing a groin problem so Marcos Rojo may start his second game in a row if Mourinho sticks with a back three.
Marouane Fellaini has also been ruled out with a knee injury while Nemanja Matic is a major doubt after being forced off with a muscle problem in midweek.
The Serbian international has been included in the squad that travelled to London but Mourinho will make a late call over his availability.
Expected Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Arsenal 2-1 Man Utd: The Gunners are in superb form at the Emirates having won each of their last 12 league games on home soil while Mourinho hasn’t won any of his last 11 away league games against the big six. The Gunners have won the last two meetings between the two sides at the Emirates and I fancy them to edge this one today.
