Manchester United are to hold talks with Leon Goretzka after joining Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign the German midfielder
The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd join the race to sign Leon Goretzka…
Manchester United are to hold talks with Leon Goretzka after joining Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign the German midfielder, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Goretzka has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining Schalke from boyhood club Bochum in the summer of 2013.
The 22-year-old is now a key part of Domenico Tedesco’s starting eleven and he’s also established himself as a regular with the German national team having scored 6 goals in his 12 appearances.
However, Goretzka’s future at the Veltins Arena is in serious doubt as his contract expires next June and so far he’s refused to sign an extension – despite Schalke’s best efforts to secure his signature.
Understandably, the midfielder has attracted plenty of interest with the Mirror reporting last month that Arsenal were battling it out with Liverpool to land the player after both clubs made him a key target.
Arsene Wenger is looking to revamp his squad with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez all tipped to leave when their contracts expire in the summer and Goretzka would be an excellent signing.
Jurgen Klopp is also on the look out for midfield reinforcements as Emre Can’s future at Anfield is in serious doubt as his contract is also up in 2018 and it looks like the Liverpool boss has earmarked Goretzka as a potential replacement.
However, it seems the duo will now face fresh competition as TeamTalk are reporting that United have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign the German international.
Goretzka will be allowed to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1st and the report claims United are set to hold talks with his representatives about a free transfer move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but there is no doubt Goretzka would be a superb signing if United, Arsenal or Liverpool were able to win the race for his signature.
