Leon Goretzka has confirmed he’ll make a final decision over his future in January amid interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Goretzka has developed in to one of the most highly-rated all-round midfielders in Europe since joining Schalke from boyhood club Bochum in the summer of 2013.
The 22-year-old has established himself as a vital part of Domenico Tedesco’s starting eleven while he’s also now a regular with the German national team having scored 6 goals in his 12 caps so far.
However, Goretzka’s future at the Veltins Arena is in serious doubt as he’s in the final year of his contract and he’s failed to agree terms over an extension despite Schalke’s best efforts to tie him down to a new deal.
TeamTalk claim the Bundesliga outfit have offered him £150,000-a-week to keep him at the club but with a host of top European clubs vying for his signature, it seems the midfielder is tempted by a move away.
The report says that Arsenal, Liverpool and United are among the clubs hoping to lure Goretzka to England on a free transfer next summer and the player has revealed he’ll make a final decision over his future in January.
Goretzka is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“I have to find out for myself what the next step should be.
“I have to consider a million things. I am a person who is very meticulous in such decisions. I play through all the scenarios. So I need time.
“There doesn’t exist a deadline, but I think we are in the final phase. The final decision will be made in January.”
Last month Germany assistant boss Oliver Bierhoff accidentally revealed that Goretzka was set to become the latest German player to move to the Premier League – although he didn’t divulge which club the midfielder was supposedly off to.

When discussing the financial firepower of the Premier League compared to the Bundesliga, Bierhoff suggested that Goretzka was heading to England. He’s quoted by TeamTalk as saying:
“We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sane and [Schalke’s] Leon Goretzka are moving to England and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game,”
Goretzka would be a superb signing for any of the English clubs being linked and it would be a major coup if Arsenal, United or Liverpool were able to win the race for his signature.
