Arsenal take on BATE Borisov at the Emirates this evening. Here is a preview with the latest team news, line-ups and prediction
Arsenal will look to end their Europa League group stage campaign on a high when we take on BATE at the Emirates this evening.
We have already secured top spot in Group H after taking ten points from our first five games so there is very little riding on tonight’s game for Arsenal other than pride.
Arsene Wenger will no doubt be keen to get back to winning ways as we haven’t registered a goal in our last two European games and slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Man Utd at the weekend.
The last thing the manager will want is for complacency to set in and another poor result tonight could have a detrimental effect to squad morale so it’s still important we get back on track despite there being little left to play for in the group.
BATE head in to the game sitting bottom, however, with just one point separating the three teams below us they can still qualify for the knockout stages so they’ll be desperate to pull off a shock this evening.
Team News
Wenger is going to heavily rotate his starting eleven once again with all of our key men expected to be rested ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Southampton.
Shkodran Mustafi has been ruled out with a thigh injury that he picked up at the weekend but he would have been rested even if fit so he’ll join the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette in being given the night off.
Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere will get another chance to impress this evening while Theo Walcott is also set to make a rare start in attack.
Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Olivier Giroud are also set to feature while youngsters Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles should get another chance to impress.
Expected Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Arsenal 2-0 BATE: We are unbeaten at home in our last seven European group stage games and BATE have won just twice away from home in Europe in 24 attempts so we should be confident of getting a result. We won the reverse fixture 4-2 back in September and while I don’t expect to see quite such an exciting game this time around, I do think Arsenal will still win.
