The January transfer window is just around the corner meaning clubs are working hard on potential deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with David Luiz…
Arsenal are ready to battle Manchester United for the signature of David Luiz and are lining-up a £30m bid for the out-of-favour Chelsea defender, according to the Express.
Luiz rejoined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016 and was a key figure as the Blues won the Premier League last season but the defender has endured a more difficult campaign this term.
The 30-year-old has fallen badly out-of-favour under Antonio Conte and has started just one game since a bust-up with his manager following Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to AS Roma in the Champions League at the end of October.
Luiz has been suffering with a knee injury in recent weeks but the Express claim sources close to the player insists he’s now fully fit but Conte is still opting to go with youngster Andreas Christensen at the heart of his defence.
It’s led to speculation suggesting that Luiz will be on the move when the transfer window reopens in January as he needs to be playing regular first team football ahead of next summers World Cup Finals.
The Express claim that Man Utd are targetting Luiz as Jose Mourinho wants to be reunited with the centre-back at Old Trafford having previously worked with him during their time at Chelsea.
Eric Bailly has been ruled out for around three months following ankle surgery while Victor Lindelof has failed to establish himself since joining the club from Benfica in the summer so it looks like Mourinho is eyeing another defender with Luiz on his radar.
However, United could now face stiff competition as the Express claim Arsenal have joined the race to sign Luiz with Arsene Wenger lining-up a surprise £30m bid this winter.
Arsenal’s leaky defence has undermined any hopes of challenging for the title again this season and the newspaper says Luiz has emerged as a top target as Wenger looks to strengthen his defence in January.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Luiz will push for a move if he continues to find himself on the bench – although it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be willing to sell Luiz to Arsenal or United.

However, the west Londoners have shown in the past with the sales of Petr Cech, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata that they’re prepared to do business with their rivals so we could see Luiz joining Arsenal or United this winter.
