The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are linked with Jonny Evans…
Tottenham have joined Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Evans spent 11 years at Old Trafford and made almost 200 first team appearances for United after coming through the clubs youth academy before joining West Brom for £8m in the summer of 2015.
The 30-year-old has proven to be an excellent signing for the Baggies as Evans has been one of the most consistent central defenders in the Premier League over the past three seasons.
His form has led to interest from Arsenal and the Telegraph claim the Gunners are expected to try again this summer after failing with a late bid to sign Evans during the January transfer window.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for a centre-back as Per Mertesacker is retiring while Laurent Koscielny is plagued by an on-going Achilles injury so Arsenal are eyeing Evans as an experienced addition to their squad.
However, the Telegraph say Tottenham have now joined the chase to sign the Northern Ireland international while Man Utd have also been tipped to try and re-sign their former defender this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino is lining-up targets amid speculation Spurs may be forced to cash-in on Toby Alderweireld this summer as talks with the Belgian international over a new contract have stalled.
Evans would give Tottenham another experienced head in defence who the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth could learn from so it looks like they could rival Arsenal for his signature.
But the north London duo may face further competition from United as Jose Mourinho is expected to revamp his defence this summer and a move back to Old Trafford could be a tempting proposition for Evans.
The Telegraph claim a £3m release clause will be activated in Evans’ contract if West Brom are relegated and with the Baggies 10 points from safety it looks highly likely they’ll be dropping to the Championship.

So it’s no wonder the likes of Arsenal, United and Spurs are eyeing a bargain move for Evans and I think he’d be an excellent addition for whatever club ends up winning the race for his signature.
