Boss Convinced Move Will Happen As Arsenal & Liverpool Battle To Sign £88m Star
Atletico Madrid expect Jan Oblak to leave the club this summer as Arsenal and Liverpool battle it out to sign the £88m-rated goalkeeper
The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Jan Oblak….
Atletico Madrid expect Jan Oblak to leave the club this summer as Arsenal and Liverpool battle it out to sign the £88m-rated goalkeeper, according to reports in Spain via the Independent.
Oblak has been one of the best keepers in world football since joining Atletico from Benfica in 2014 and he kept an incredible 22 clean sheets in his 37 La Liga appearances last season.
The 25-year-old conceded just 22 goals to help Atletico finish second behind Barcelona in the table while he was instrumental in guiding Diego Simeone’s men to winning the Europa League.
However, the Slovenian international’s future at the Wanda Metropolitano is in serious doubt as he’s yet to sign an improved contract that would see his €100m [£88m] release clause increase significantly.
Atletico have been trying to tie the goalkeeper down to a long-term extension as although £88m would smash the world record for a goalkeeper, Oblak is still attracting plenty of interest this summer.
The Independent claim that Atletico boss Simeone is now convinced that Oblak will leave the club over the coming weeks and has already lined-up Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga as his replacement.
That news has put Arsenal and Liverpool on red alert as the newspaper says the Premier League duo are now ready to battle it out over the signing of Oblak this summer.
Arsenal are in need of a new number one as Petr Cech is now 36 and his form has dropped dramatically over the past 12 months so the Gunners are eyeing an ambitious swoop to sign Oblak.
However, they’ll face stiff competition from Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp is also on the look out for a new keeper following Loris Karius’s costly mistakes during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
The Reds have also been linked with Roma’s Alisson Becker but Klopp would no doubt jump at the chance to sign Oblak if the Slovenian star was open to the idea of moving to Anfield.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but if Madrid are looking to sign Kepa then it seems Oblak will be on the move this summer and he would be a sensational signing for Arsenal or Liverpool.
