The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Anthony Martial wants to leave Manchester United….
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are set to do-battle over the signing of Anthony Martial after his agent confirmed he wants to leave Manchester United, according to TeamTalk.
Martial was one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe when he joined United in an initial £36m move [via the Metro] from Monaco in 2015 and he enjoyed a positive start to life at Old Trafford. The French international showed some great form during the first half of last season with 11 goals and 10 assists to his name by the end of December but he fell badly out of favour under Jose Mourinho following the turn of the year.
Martial started just 4 Premier League games following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January and the youngster was one of several players picked out for public criticism by Mourinho at time last season. His lack of regular game-time also ended up costing him a place in the France squad for this summers World Cup finals.
Understandably there has been plenty of speculation surrounding Martial’s future in the media in recent months and it looks like the 22-year-old has now made up his mind to leave United this summer.
The attackers agent, Philippe Lamboley, has told French media that Martial has decided to look for a fresh start away from Old Trafford. United’s failure to agree terms over a new deal has convinced the player he’s not really valued at the club and he would have asked to leave earlier if it wasn’t for the support of the fans.
Lamboley is quoted by TeamTalk as saying:
‘After thinking about all the possibilities and settings, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United.
‘There are many parameters, for now it’s premature to talk about it [the reasons for his decision]. Anthony will speak later to discuss all of this.’
‘They want to extend [Martial’s contract] and do not want him to leave but we do not find agreement for several months. I think that when Manchester United, which is the most powerful club in the world, does not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is that it does not really want to make him an important player.
‘That’s why this decision comes in. It is a well-considered decision. However, it is quite obvious and it is very important to remember that he is under contract, that United will have the last word and that we will respect the decision of the club, it will go to the end of its commitment.
‘However we do not have the same vision on Anthony’s future. Today, Anthony is disappointed because he has shown for three seasons the love he had for the club and his supporters.’
‘I can tell you that without the unconditional support of the fans, Anthony would have already asked to leave United,’
‘However, Anthony got hooked, he showed great professionalism, he was successful. I think he has done his best for three years. It is important to remember that this season he scored 11 goals and gave ten assists in five months. He was elected three times as the player of the month by fans.
‘Then arrived the transfer window of January. I will not comment on the consequences of this transfer window. Everyone will have his opinion, I think he must resume the course of his career. The time has come.’
This bombshell has alerted several Premier League clubs with TeamTalk claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are all now ready to do-battle over the Frenchman’s signature this summer.
The London trio have been strongly linked with Martial in recent months and he’d be a superb addition to any of their squads but it remains to be seen whether United will be willing to do business with a domestic rival.

If the Manchester giants agree to sell then I’d assume they’d prefer to sell abroad but player-power is strong these days so Martial may be able to force a move to the capital if he’s determined to remain in the Premier League to prove Mourinho wrong.
