United Legend Confirms Retirement Plans
Edwin Van Der Sar, United’s best keeper since the Great Dane Peter Schmeichel has confirmed he will hang up his gloves at the end of this season. He has been rock solid between the sticks over the past 5 years and Fergie has a big job on his hands trying to find a replacement.
The Flying Dutchman has been a revelation since he arrived at Old Trafford in 2005 and will go down in United folklore for that penalty save against Nicolas Anelka in Moscow in 2008. The Dutchman brought the stability and calmness at the back which had been missing since Schmeichel had left six years previously and Sir Alex has stated on numerous occassion how one of his big regrets is not signing Van Der Sar back in 1999 when Schmeichel left United.
Van Der Sar is one of the best keepers in the world, even at 40 years of age and has achieved a lot in his career since making his debut at Ajax wayback in 1990. Edwin has won 7 League titles, 4 Domestic cups, 2 Champions Leagues and the UEFA Cup. He has represented his country 130 times (captaining them on numerous occasions) and was also voted best keeper in Europe in 1995 and again in 2009.
