Man Utd Open Talks With Agent As Mourinho Aims To Secure Huge £88m Deal
Manchester United have made contact with agent Jorge Mendes to try and hijack Juventus’s £88m deal to sign Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd have made a late move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo…
Manchester United have made contact with agent Jorge Mendes to try and hijack Juventus’s £88m deal to sign Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a report via TeamTalk.
Ronaldo joined United as a teenager from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and enjoyed an excellent six-year spell at Old Trafford before joining Madrid in a then world-record move in the summer of 2009. The Portuguese superstar went on to establish himself as one of the all-time greats of the game having won 5 Ballon d’Or’s and a whole host of trophies over the past nine years.
The 33-year-old scored an incredible 450 goals in 438 games for Los Blancos to fire the Spanish giants to 4 Champions League’s and 2 La Liga titles but Ronaldo’s future at the Bernabeu has been called in to serious question in the past few weeks.
The Portuguese international has reportedly fallen out with Madrid president Florentino Perez after talks over a new contract collapsed and reports coming out of Spain last month said Ronaldo had made up his mind to leave the Spanish capital.
Ronaldo has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus with widespread reports suggesting a switch to Turin is practically a ‘done deal’, however, it seems United have made a late move to try and hijack the transfer.
TeamTalk are citing a report from the Sun that claims United have made contact with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to express their interest in luring the forward back to Manchester and they were told that the proposed £88m move to Juve is not yet over the line.
The newspaper says United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is now looking in to what it will take for the Red Devils to snatch the deal from under Juve’s noses and they hope to use their close relationship with Mendes to their advantage.
Mendes is also Jose Mourinho’s representative so the report says the United boss and Woodward are set to hold further talks with the agent to try and thrash out a sensational move for Ronaldo.
Obviously it would be a major coup if United could somehow lure Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer as despite his age he’s still arguably the best player in the world – although Lionel Messi would have something to say about that.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but as it stands it seems Juventus remain in pole position to land Ronaldo if he does leave Madrid but we shouldn’t rule United out of the running just yet.
