Lucas Torreira is flying to London to undergo his medical and sign a four-year contract with Arsenal ahead of his £26.5m move from Sampdoria, according to various reports today.
New boss Unai Emery has been in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer and Torreira emerged as his prime target with widespread speculation claiming we were in advanced talks with Sampdoria before the World Cup started last month.
The midfielder flew-out to Russia with the Uruguay squad without resolving his future but Football London claim Arsenal agreed a £26.5m deal with Sampdoria and have already settled on terms over a four-year contract.
Torreira starred for Uruguay at the World Cup before they were knocked out by France on Friday and the midfielder admitted after the game that he had turned down the chance to have his medical with Arsenal in Russia as he wanted to concentrate on representing his country but confirmed his future would be resolved soon.
Football London claim Torreira is now due to fly to London from Russia to undergo his medical with Arsenal as Emery wants the transfer wrapped-up as quickly as possible with pre-season preparations already well underway.
That claim is supported by Uruguayan outlet Referi who confirm the 22-year-old will not travel with the rest of his international team-mates back to Uruguay and is instead travelling to London, via Moscow, today to complete his move to Arsenal.
The publication says once Torreira seals his move he will then fly back to Montevideo in Uruguay to take a few days off before returning to London to begin his pre-season preparations with his new Arsenal team mates.
