Liverpool Ahead Of Arsenal In Race To Sign WC Star Despite Seeing £19.5 Bid Rejected
The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool remain in pole position ahead of Arsenal to sign Domagoj Vida…
Liverpool still have the advantage over the likes of Arsenal in the race to sign Domagoj Vida despite Besiktas rejecting their £19.5m offer on Tuesday, according to report via the Mirror.
Vida has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Besiktas in January following a five-year spell at Dinamo Kiev as the centre-back enjoyed a fine six months in Turkey before playing a key role in helping Croatia reach their first ever World Cup final where they eventually lost out to France.
The 29-year-old’s excellent performances have caught the eye of clubs here in the Premier League with the Mirror citing Milliyet as saying that Arsenal, West Ham and Everton have all expressed their interest in signing Vida this summer.
Unai Emery has already splashed out on one experienced central defender with Sokratis arriving from Borussia Dortmund but with Per Mertesacker moving in to a coaching role and Laurent Koscielny facing months out through injury it seems Arsenal could be in the market for another defender.
Vida is seemingly on Emery’s radar but the Mirror claim that Liverpool have the upper hand over the likes of Arsenal in the race to sign the centre-back despite seeing an improved £19.5m bid rejected by Besiktas on Tuesday night.
The newspaper report says Liverpool are ready to use Besiktas’s interest in Simon Mignolet to their advantage in any further negotiations over Vida as Jurgen Klopp prepares to use the out-of-favour goalkeeper as bait.
Mignolet is expected to leave Anfield after dropping further down the pecking order following Alisson Becker’s arrival last week and the Mirror says Besiktas are lining-up a £12m swoop for the Belgian international.
The Turkish giants are in the market for a new number one after selling Fabri to Fulham this week so it looks like Liverpool could use their interest in Mignolet to get a deal agreed for Vida.

Klopp is being tipped to sign another centre-back as doubts continue over Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip has picked up yet another injury problem so Vida could be viewed as the man to partner Virgil van Dijk this season.
