Tottenham bosses are ready to back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market with a summer spending spree and bids have already been made for two exciting players, according to the Mirror.
Pochettino has been open about his frustrations in the market over the past few years with the north Londoners spending considerably less than their top six rivals while they built their new £1 billion stadium.
The Argentinean coach has done a fantastic job to keep Tottenham competitive despite his limited budget but they once again came up short in their quest to end their trophy drought after losing 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday.
After the game, Pochettino once again highlighted the restrictions he’s been working under over the past five years and it’s led to speculation that the Spurs boss may decide he’s taken the club as far as he can go.
Pochettino is quoted by the Mirror as saying over the weekend:
“We are a team that has priorities that is shared with the stadium. We looked at the quality of our players in the final but it would have been incredible to win and lift the trophy.
“It would have been something that would have surprised people because in the last five years Tottenham prioritised their stadium and spent zero on transfers. We’re not the smartest in the class, but not the stupidest either.
“But it is incredible and this club deserves a lot of credit. The fanbase deserves a lot of credit. Hopefully it will be the beginning of a very successful period for the club.”
Pochettino left Southampton for Spurs in 2014 due to concerns he wasn’t being given the tools needed to challenge the big boys after finishing eighth in the Premier League but Tottenham appear determined to hang on to the 47-year-old.
The Mirror claims that Daniel Levy is ready to back his manager in the transfer market this summer and embark on a spending spree that will hopefully persuade Pochettino to commit his future to the club and turn Spurs into genuine title contenders.
The newspaper says big-money bids have already seen opening bids rejected for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and Lyon midfield enforcer Tanguy Ndombele as Tottenham look to prove to Pochettino they can match his ambitions.
Lo Celso could be viewed as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen amid speculation he’ll leave the club as he’s about to enter the final year of his contract and no extension has been agreed as yet.
Victor Wanyama is also being tipped to leave Spurs this summer and Ndombele has seemingly been earmarked as a replacement by Pochettino following a superb campaign in France with Lyon.
Back-up for Harry Kane is also needed and the Mirror says Tottenham have their eye on Celta Vigo hitman Maxi Gomez while Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon is also mentioned a key target for the north Londoners.

After not buying a single player last summer, it sounds like Tottenham are going to be much busier in the market this summer and Pochettino will no doubt be a happy man if Levy can deliver him the likes of Lo Celso, Ndombele and Sessegnon.
