Liverpool Launch £22m Bid For United Bound Jones
Liverpool have made a £22million bid for England U21 star Phil Jones. Rovers defender Phil Jones had reportedly already agreed a 5-year deal with Manchester United but Blackburn are still insisting on more than the £16.5million offered by United.
With a transfer fee yet to be agreed by both parties, Liverpool hope the £22m will be enough to snatch the 19-year old right under United’s noses.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool had originally matched United’s £16.5 million offer but Jones opted for a move to Old Trafford. With Chelsea also interested in the centre half a transfer bidding war amongst the top teams in the Premiership is expected for the promising youngster.
The Mail on Sunday reported that Blackburn have been left enraged with United’s attitude over Jones, a source close to Blackburn said
“United can’t do what they want in this case. Jones is a Blackburn player and while there is a clause that could mean he leaves, it’s far from the straightforward issue everyone assumes it to be.”
