Liverpool
Henderson Needs To Follow Lucas’s Example
Jordan Henderson has had a mixed start to his Liverpool career. After his multimillion pound move from Sunderland the 21 year old had two uninspiring performances against Sunderland and Arsenal. Before a much more solid display against Bolton in which the England Under 21 international scored his first goal in a red shirt.
However after Liverpool’s frustrating defeat to Stoke City some Liverpool fans appear to be losing patience with Henderson. The midfielder was let down by his finishing as he wasted some good chances in front of the Stoke goal. However Henderson was not alone as Liverpool’s other new signing Charlie Adam missed key chances for Liverpool. Even the magical Luis Suarez couldn’t find a way through the Stoke wall.
For Henderson to come good he only has to take note of another Liverpool midfielder……Lucas. When Lucas came into the Liverpool squad the Brazilian looked like he lacked the ability and strength for the Premier League. We all remember the Fulham which saw Lucas booed off and the Wigan game in which Lucas gave away a penalty to allow Wigan to scrape a 1-1 draw. The departure of Xabi Alonso forced Lucas into the heart of the Liverpool midfield much to the disappointment of parts of the Liverpool faithful.
However Lucas didn’t give up and worked hard at his game and is now a key part Liverpool’s midfield and of course last season Lucas’s redemption came when he was voted fans player of the year.
Rafa Benitez always praised Lucas despite the critics and poor performances he showed. It’s clear Benitez was right after all. Henderson too has seen praise from his manager as King Kenny clearly believes he has talent and is the right man to build Liverpool’s future around.
People need to forget Henderson high price tag and give the lad a chance he is only 21 and has already shown plenty of potential. I believe like Lucas did Jordan Henderson will come good and be a future Liverpool captain.
Do you agree can Henderson follow in Lucas’s footsteps and be the heart of Liverpool’s future? Or is Henderson a total flop out of his depth at Liverpool?
