The January Transfer Window is almost upon us and each and everyday Arsenal are linked to a different player throughout Europe, today we look at Fiorentina’s Juan Vargas.
For those of you who don’t know, Juan Manuel Vargas plays left wing for Fiorentina and is the national team captain of Peru. Before joining Fiorentina in 2008, Vargas spent three years playing for Italian side Catania.
Playing Style
Vargas plays at left back, on the wing, or in the midfield, in both offensive and defensive positions. Vargas impresses with his ability to dribble the ball and make remarkable shots on goal. He is also known for his free kick ability and accurate crosses.
Italian great and teammate Albert Gilardino said that Juan Manuel Vargas is probably the best crosser he has ever played with. This is what I think is why he has interested Arsene Wenger, due to Arsenal not having that many players that can deliver a great cross.
Arsenal’s interest
There are reports indicating that Wenger has expressed an interest in Vargas and that Arsenal may be preparing a bid for him in January. Wenger had the choice to bring him in during the summer, but the Arsenal boss decided not to so he could scout him during the season.
A big reason why Arsene Wenger wants to bring Vargas to Arsenal is duet to his versatility. Vargas is capable of playing at left back, at left wing, and in the central midfield. Another reason why Wenger wants to bring him in his is mental toughness. Throughout Italy, Vargas has gained a reputation of being a mental nut.
Other teams looking to sign Vargas
There has only been one other team that has expressed interest in the Juan Manuel Vargas. That team is Juventus. If Arsenal are to pursue him, they will have to face tough competition with Juventus for Vargas’ signature.
Price: The expected fee for Vargas is set to be at £10 million.
