OFFICIAL: Gary Cahill Completes Chelsea Move
Chelsea have finally confirmed the signing of Bolton defender Gary Cahill today after extensive contract talks, with the 26-year-old wearing the number 24 shirt.
Chelsea have finally confirmed the signing of Bolton defender Gary Cahill this afternoon after lengthy contract negotiations.
The 26-year-old passed a medical on Saturday morning and watched his new team mates from the stands as Chelsea beat Sunderland 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Owen Coyle confirmed Chelsea and Bolton agreed a fee over two weeks ago, and after extensive contract talks Andre Villas-Boas has finally got his man.
Cahill will wear the number 24 shirt and will compete with the likes of David Luiz for a place alongside John Terry at the heart of Chelsea’s defence for their next game away to Norwich this weekend.
On completing the move, Cahill told Chelsea’s official website:
‘Chelsea is a massive club, it is a club that looks to win trophies season in season out and it is a big opportunity for me to be a part of that. Opportunities like this you can’t turn down.’
The exact fee has not been disclosed but BBC suggest Chelsea will pay Bolton around £7m for Cahill’s services, which represents good value for money for a player who has both Premier League and International experience.
