Chelsea Transfer News: Azpilicueta Responds To Blues Rumours
Marseiller defender Cesar Azpilicueta has been responding to rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea, saying he’d be open to the move if the Blues came in.
It’s been another relatively quite day on the transfer gossip front but one story that did stand out concerns Chelsea and a possible move for Marseiller defender Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Mirror is reporting that the 22-year-old right-back has responded to speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea, by declaring he would be open to a move should the Blues come calling.
Earlier this month, Goal.com were among several media outlets to link Andre Villas-Boas with a move for the Spanish defender, claiming the Chelsea boss was on the look-out for a replacement for Jose Bosingwa.
The Mirror have now followed that up by quoting Azpilicueta as saying that while he’s happy at Marseille and has heard nothing official from Chelsea, he would consider the move should it be offered to him.
“For me, these are just rumours. There has been no contact, and I am still bound to OM until 2014,” the right-back told L’Equipe.
“Now, if the leaders of Chelsea want me, they should first discuss that with OM. If a proposal comes, I will think about it.
“It is more difficult to start in the national team when you do not play at a great club. You have to be at Real Madrid or Barcelona.
“But I feel good today at OM,” the youngster added.
Not sure about this one. Seems to me that Azpilicueta is sounding out Real Madrid or Barcelona more than he is Chelsea. He would be a decent addition to the Stamford Bridge squad though, if Villas-Boas could bring him in.
Jose Bosingwa has failed to impress at right back and while Ivanovic certainly seems to more solid choice in that position, a long-term solution needs to be found. I’m just not convinced Azpilicueta will prove to be the answer.
