Podolski - summer transfer target?

Arsenal will look to make up for lost ground on fellow top four challengers this summer by giving Arsene Wenger £55 million to spend on recruiting new players, according to the Daily Mail.

The club have been knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup, and are effectively out of both the Champions League and the Premier League title race, leaving them with the only ambition of finishing inside the top four in order to gain European Cup qualification next year.

After seven years without a trophy, the Daily Mail claim that it has finally been decided that money must be spent in order to keep Arsenal in with a chance of winning something next season.

Despite Wenger’s failure to deliver success to the London club in recent years, Arsenal’s majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke and the Gunners board will support their manager despite growing unrest among the Arsenal fan base.

As I wrote yesterday, this support from the board and the fans must be present in abundance, as must substantial funds be available for Arsenal to compete with clubs who have mountains of cash themselves in the transfer market.

However, what must also be assured is that Arsene Wenger, known for his reluctance to delve into his transfer fund, does purchase players who are ready-made, quality players, rather than young men with potential.

Whilst this has been successful to a degree, it has not brought Arsenal the desired silverware to appease frustrated fans and ambitious players. Former Arsenal manager George Graham diagnosed the problem when quoted in the Daily Mail as saying:

‘I think Arsenal are in crisis. I think it’s been slipping away for the last couple of years and they’ve not been replacing the players that left four or five years ago. They’ve got money to buy players and I can’t understand why Arsene didn’t go out and buy some real quality players in the summer.”

“Nowadays you’ve got to introduce youngsters coming through like Sir Alex Ferguson does. But at the same time he’ll buy the ready-made player who costs £25m because they’re not afraid to do it.”

“I think Arsene has overdone the youth policy and the players coming in are not as good as the ones that have left.”

The Mail go on to name Eden Hazard, Mario Goetze and Lukas Podolski as potential signings, and all are quality players who will cost a considerable amount. Wenger now has no excuses. It is spend to succeed or fail to do both.

personally i dont think £55m is close to what arsenal need to spend in the summer tho’ if we can keep the money we get from exiting players as well we may be closer to the £120m i think we need to be spending on worldclass players. if we could sell arshavin (7m), chamakh (5m), rosicky (3-4m), walcott (20m), squillaci (1m). another thing that bothers me is’ why did djourou get a contract extension? he’s got to be the worst defender in the EPL

Am not sure Wenger will spend the money even though it is given to him. This is the same story of last season. How could you sell your best and couldn’t get a better replacement.Wengeris a sturborn failure. The fans are tired of him and his board. They mainly concerned about their profit.

Can blind people who rely on the media to make up their minds not post please. your all like ‘we need way more than 50 million’, ’50 million is nothing in the transfer market today’. very simple thing is the arsenal squad isnt bad and its annoys me soo much when people say it is without actually analysing it. ok here we go
LB we have A.SANTOS back up K.GIBBS strong there.
RB we have B.SANGA back up C.JENKSON (pretty harsh to judge the boy he has been injured) all together strong there.
CB T.VERMAELEN AND L.KOSCIELNY back up P.MERTESACKER and two players i wont name because i do think that they need to be replaced but just 1 good CB needed.
DM we have A.SONG and J.WILSHIRE one of the the strongest pairings in Europe
CM we have Ramsey, Arteta, Benayoun, Rosicky I admit here we could have some work done, i was dubious when arsen brought in Arteta and Benayoun and i have been proved right, Arteta wont pass the ball forward and Bena dosent even get a game so experience down the drain. but i would be hesitant in getting rid of the Czech Republic captain Rosicky, he is quality just needs to be played in his position ACM!!
WINGERS as we all know we have Walcot, Arshavin, Gervinho and Chamberlain. This is a set of 4 players with ridiculous amounts of potential, and i dont mean they are young and in a couple of years it will come out i mean they have it they just have to show it i would keep them all including Arshavin who at his best is one of the BEST in the world its up to us to get him there again not another team.
ST we have VAN THE MAN VAN PERSIE and CHAMAKH. I leave this down to wenger to sort out he chamakh seems like ‘he could be but isnt’ to put it simply i dont want to see him go and get 20 goals for another team but if he isnt going to do it here then maybe he should go. Podolski seems like a very good asset.
GK Szczesny, backed up buy Flappyhandski who needs to go!!!!!

so there you go an accurate analysis of the arsenal team. Very simple if we keep our players fit, injury free and replace some players who very simply cost us games (Djourou,Squillaci,Arteta,Fabianski and Chamakh) then we have a chance in every comp. as a meerkat would say SIMPLES.
